Garbage truck and its history (world-wide)

The garbage truck is a type of truck specifically designed to take municipal solid waste and take it to an establishment for the treatment of solid waste which includes the recycling center, landfill and transfer stations. It is in Australia they are often referred to as garbage trucks, also known as garbage trucks. In the U.K. dustbin lorry or bin lorry is a common name. Other names that are commonly used for this kind of truck are trash trucks in the United States, and refuse truck, dustcart truck bin wagon, bin van in other countries. Technically, they are called the waste collection vehicle (WCV) and the refuse collection vehicles ( RCV). These trucks are a regular sight in urban zones.

History

Wagons and other methods were used for centuries to remove solid trash. One of the first self-propelled garbage trucks the ones which were purchased from Chiswick District Council from the Thornycroft Steam Wagon and Carriage Company in 1897. They were described as a tip-car with a steam motor and a unique design of body designed specifically to “the collection of household waste and dust”.

The 1920s saw the very first open-topped trucks used however, due to the stinky odors and waste falling off the back, covered trucks quickly became more popular. The first covered trucks were introduced in the more populous Europe as well as to North America, but were soon in use throughout the world.

The biggest issue was that waste collectors had to raise the waste up to the level of shoulder height. The first method that was developed in the 1920s to resolve this issue was to construct round storage containers which would raise the load and move back to the front. An even more efficient design was developed, the “hopper” in 1929. It was a cable-based system that would bring waste into the truck.

It was 1937 when George Dempster invented the Dempster-Dumpster technique where wheeled waste bins were mechanically placed in the truck. The containers were referred to as Dumpsters which resulted in the term dumpster being used in the English language.

In 1938 in 1938, in 1938, the Garwood Load Packer revolutionized the industry by incorporating the compactor inside the truck. The first compactor was able to increase the capacity of a truck by. This was achieved through using the hydraulic press, which regularly compressed everything inside the trucks.

Special Trucks–Garbage Trucks

In 1955, the Dempster Dumpmaster, the first front loader, came out. It wasn’t in the 70s. The 1970s also saw advent of small dumpsters. They were commonly called wheelie bins, which were also filled mechanically. Since then, there has been no major changes however there have been numerous enhancements to the compaction mechanism to increase the payload. In the late 1970s, Petersen Industries introduced the first grapple truck to be used for municipal garbage collection.

In 1969 Scottsdale, Arizona was the first city to do so. Scottsdale, Arizona introduced the first ever automated side loader. The new truck could load 300 gallon containers at 30 second intervals, with having the driver leave the cab.

in 1997 Lee Rthbun launched Lee Rathbun introduced the Lightning Rear Steer System. The system features an rear-facing, elevated cab that is capable of simultaneously driving the vehicle as well as managing the loader. This arrangement allows the driver to drive behind haul trucks and load in a continuous manner.
